Wood Shop Program

Monday-Friday

9 a.m to 3 p.m.

One of our most popular activities is Wood Shop, which runs from Nov. 1 to April 1. Expert instructors teach students how to create their own bowl, vase, pen or other small object.

You can work at your own pace and on your own schedule, beginning with a mandatory two-hour introduction class prior to starting your first project. All equipment is provided.

The cost is $25 a month in addition to a nominal charge for materials. Ralph Thurston heads a team of instructors who are as patient as they are professional.

Dennis Carlson with a beautiful piece he made at Wood Carmving class at the Senior Center.

This class is for those with little or no experience with playing a ukulele. No instrument? We have six ukuleles available for borrowing. The class will teach basic skills such as playing chords that can be used for playing popular songs. More advanced students often sit in on this class to help “newbies.” The goal is for beginners to have fun and to learn a skill that can be used either at home alone or in partnership with others. Folks in the Beginning Ukulele Class are encouraged to stay for the BUMS class.

.Beginning Ukulele Class

Friday

12:30 to 1 p.m.

.Beach Ukulele Music Society (BUMS) Class

Friday

1 to 2:30 p.m.

This class, which begins right after the Beginning Ukulele Class, is focused on having fun playing a ukulele and singing along with a wonderful group of folks. All levels of capability are encouraged to attend. If a person knows only one chord, we encourage them to play that chord whenever it comes up and to sing along with all songs.

We strive to play familiar songs as well as to learn new songs and to improve our playing capabilities. In addition to bringing joy to ourselves, we also play for other groups and at nearby senior communities and assisted living facilities.

... And many more to come!
